estendal (2017)
Réalisée lors d’une résidence à Lisbonne en novembre 2017, la série estendal se veut d’abord et avant tout l’apprivoisement d’un lieu inconnu. À la manière d’une traduction poétique des lieux géographiques, l’artiste transcrit ici des endroits cachés, inaccessibles ou empreint d’une intimité habituellement réservée à l’habitant. On y devine notamment des cours intérieures privées et des étendoirs à vêtements – le mot portugais estendal étant ici la traduction libre de l’objet servant à faire sécher ses vêtements devant chez soi, visibles de tous.

The estendal serie, creating during a 2017 art residency in Lisbon, is first and foremost the taming of an unknown place. Hidden places, inaccessible to public or marked by an intimacy character, are revealed through a poetic and geographical translation. This is how it’s possible to perceive private courtyards or clothes : the portuguese word estendal here being the traduction of the object used to dry clothes in front of people’s place, visible to all.
